Frequently asked questions

What return should I use?

There is no single appropriate return assumption. Try several hypothetical rates to see how sensitive the result is. The rate you enter is an illustration, not a forecast: actual investment returns can be lower or negative, and fees, tax and inflation can reduce outcomes.

Is this the same as the retirement calculator?

It uses the same compounding math, but without tying it to a specific retirement age — useful for any goal with a flexible timeline, like a house deposit or a general investment pot.

Does this account for taxes or fees?

No — it's a simplified gross growth estimate. Investment fees, account charges, and any tax on gains or withdrawals will reduce the real-world result.
