Frequently asked questions

How is the monthly amount needed calculated?

We divide your goal, minus what you've already saved, across your chosen timeframe, then adjust for any interest your savings will earn along the way.

What interest rate should I use for a savings goal?

If it's sitting in a standard savings account, use your account's actual rate. For a goal several years out that you're investing, you might use a more conservative growth rate than you would for retirement.

What if I can't afford the monthly amount shown?

Try adjusting your timeframe — pushing your goal date out, even by a few months, often brings the required monthly saving down to something more realistic.
