Frequently asked questions

Should I count a guaranteed bonus the same as base salary?

A guaranteed, contractual bonus is safe to count here. A discretionary or performance bonus is worth including too, but treat it as less certain than the number on the offer letter.

What about things I can't put a number on?

Plenty — team, manager, career growth, flexibility, job security. This tool only handles the parts that are actually numbers; it's one input into the decision, not the whole decision.

Does pension contribution really matter this much?

Over a career it adds up to a lot, since it compounds for years before you touch it — worth taking seriously even when the up-front salary looks similar.
